Frequent Question Answers

Getting Started:

What is a Thinwires hotspot?
Thinwires is a broadband wireless network offering high-speed Internet access (HSIA) from a number of locations across North America and abroad. These locations, known as “hotspots”, allow you to break free from the wires and cables keeping you anchored to your desk. Check your email, surf the ‘net, or get some work done using the same portable devices you’re already using at your office. Back to top

What do I need to connect to the Thinwires network?
Thinwires is generally compatible with the 802.11b/g/n wireless networking standards. All you need is a Wi-Fi certified 802.11b/g/n card and your portable device, be it a laptop, PDA or cell phone. Many devices shipped today already have Wi-Fi capabilities built-in. Back to top

How do I access the Thinwires network from a hotspot/GuestSpot/HomeSpot?
All you need to do is open up your favorite Web browser while visiting any Thinwires location. Our hardware automatically redirects you to a Thinwires login screen. From there, you’ll be able to do one or more of the following depending on the site you're visiting: accept the terms and start surfing, create an account to log on, purchase access time, or surf around the Thinwires website. Back to top

How can I tell if I'm at a Thinwires Location?
Just look for the Thinwires hotspot logo on the door. Also, if you open your Web browser and see the Thinwires login screen, you’re ready to go– just login. Back to top

I can’t log in! What can I do?
First, make sure you’re at a Thinwires hotspot/GuestSpot/HomeSpot. If you are, make sure that your login information is correct. What is the range of the Thinwires coverage?
Thinwires is available in designated hotspot/GuestSpot/HomeSpot establishments. However, due to the nature of the technology, you may be able to receive the signal not only in, but around the vicinity of the hotspot/GuestSpot/HomeSpot location. Since we're adding more hotspot/GuestSpot/HomeSpots all of the time, it's becoming more and more likely that you'll be able to use the Thinwires network wherever you go. Back to top

For Hotspot Owners

What is required to have a hotspot installed?
Thinwires provides everything but a broadband connection. A 3rd party such as a DSL or cable provider will need to install broadband service into your hotspot location. Back to top

Who installs the Thinwires equipment?
Our team of specialists will install and configure all equipment at your hotspot. Back to top

What will my customers see after the hotspot is installed?
Our equipment is typically very small and easily hides away under the counter or into a small cabinet. If you require extra coverage, we may need to install small antennas, but will work to ensure that they are as discreet and unobtrusive as possible to your décor. Back to top

If I have questions or problems, whom do I contact?
Contact your regional Thinwires representative, or contact Thinwires customer support by clicking here. Back to top

How will people know that my business is a Thinwires hotspot?

How much work is needed to maintain the hotspot?
Maintaining your hotspot requires little to no work from you. If there are any problems, you simply call Thinwires and we'll arrange for a regional rep to come to your location. We will remotely take care of any equipment maintenance updates and monitor the network 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your Thinwires representative will also work to ensure that you have adequate promotional materials on hand at all times. Back to top
